President and Chair Message
Aloha,
A lot has happened since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
At HMSA, we learned many valuable lessons. We found out how nimble and adaptive we can be as an organization. We demonstrated our leadership in the community, our ability to partner with stakeholders across the state, and our care and concern for the safety and well-being of our employees, members, and the entire community.
COVID-19 now exists in much the same way as other serious respiratory infections that we’ve learned to deal with. It doesn’t downplay the threat to human lives, but we’re optimistic that 2022 was the last year of significant disruptions to our lives caused by this coronavirus.
And we’re rebounding. The ability to learn together, celebrate together, share together, be together. All because of resilience – our ability to persevere through adversity to adapt, adjust, and overcome.
As a health organization, our purpose is to improve the lives of our members and the health of Hawaii. That means making health care more affordable and equitable, easier to access, and even more personal.
We embrace what we’ve learned during the pandemic to emerge as a health organization that’s stronger and more resilient to helping families enjoy ever-healthier lives.
The future is looking brighter and brighter and, as always, we remain optimistic.
Mahalo,

Mark M. Mugiishi, M.D., F.A.C.S.
President and Chief Executive Officer
