QUEST Integration – Laboratory Panels

Automated, multichannel equipment offers a cost-efficient means of performing diagnostic laboratory procedures without compromising the quality of care. The following tests are frequently done as groups or combinations on automated multichannel equipment:

CPT code Chemistry Test
82040 Albumin, serum
82247 Bilirubin, total
82248 Bilirubin, direct
82310 Calcium, total
82374 Carbon dioxide (bicarbonate)
82435 Chloride, blood
82465 Cholesterol, serum, total
82550 Creatine kinase (CK, CPK)
82565 Creatinine; blood
82947 Glucose, quantitative
82977 Gamma Glutamyltransferase (GGT)
83615 Lactate dehydrogenase (LD), (LDH)
84075 Alkaline phosphatase
84100 Phosphorus, inorganic (phosphate)
84132 Potassium, serum
84155 Protein; total, except refractometry
84295 Sodium, serum
84450 Transferase, aspartate amino (AST), (SGOT)
84460 Transferase, alanine amino (ALT), (SGPT)
84478 Triglyceride
84520 Urea nitrogen, quantitative
84550 Uric acid; blood

Automated Panel Codes

A laboratory can bill each component test individually or combine the components and bill with the panel code. However, both the panel code and the individual codes may not be billed together. For example, a laboratory can bill procedures 82374, 82435, 84132 and 84295 individually, or as profile code 80051, but not both on the same claim as 80051 includes the individual tests.

Refer to the CPT coding book for panel information.
