Hawaii Interoperability Survey

Hawaii Health Information Exchange (HHIE) and the Healthcare Association of Hawaii (HAH) invite you to participate in the Hawaii Interoperability Survey. This online survey is designed to gauge provider readiness to implement future proposed changes in health information exchange standards at the federal and state levels.

HHIE is Hawaii’s designated entity for health data exchange, providing technology, subject matter expertise, and data governance for healthcare providers and stakeholders. HHIE’s mission is to enable the sharing of and access to complete health data across the state, resulting in an improved quality of life for the people of Hawaii and lower healthcare costs for all.

Recently, the 2023 Hawaii state legislature considered an expanded set of mandates beyond Federal requirements for electronic health information exchange. This bill (HB 517, Relating to Health Data Sharing) would have made it a state requirement for mandatory real-time data exchange to other healthcare providers and the Hawaii State Department of Health within a specific timeframe. The bill was recommended for deferment by the committee in February 2023 in order to further consider the implications of the measure.

In preparation for the 2024 legislative session, HHIE and HAH would like to gather feedback from affected healthcare provider stakeholders to gauge readiness and resource capacity. The information we gather will be used to better inform the 2024 legislature.

The survey is completely voluntary and anonymous and will be open to healthcare providers Wednesday, September 20, 2023, through Monday, October 2, 2023. This survey should be completed by the person in your organization most familiar with health data exchange (such as your practice manager or IT lead). It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. HHIE and HAH appreciate the information you will provide and your participation in completing this survey. Following is the link to participate in the online survey: Hawaii Interoperability Survey.

HHIE and HAH will hold an informational session and facilitated discussion covering the survey results.

We look forward to your participation in the survey and informational session.

Sincerely, Francis Chan, CEO HHIE Hilton Raethel, CEO HAH
