Eye X-ray Prior to MRI or MRA

Description:

When a MRI or MRA is performed, metal is not allowed into the chamber due to the effect magnetism has on metal. It may be necessary for a patient who has a history of exposure to metal fragments to have an x-ray of the eyes prior to a MRI or MRA. Screening x-rays of the eye are covered if the patient has a history of known intraocular or periorbital foreign body or history of occupational exposure to potential metallic ocular injury. Examples include members who are welders, grinders, metal workers, etc.
