Billing for Organ- or Disease-oriented Lab Panels - Non-Medicare-based Plans

CPT includes codes for specific organ- and disease-oriented panels, composed of individual tests. The specific organ- or disease-oriented panel code should be billed when all components of the applicable panel are performed. If additional tests are performed that are not part of the panel, they may be billed separately.

If an organ- or disease-oriented panel is ordered, bill the appropriate panel code (CPT 80048-80076). Reporting of the billed codes is explained in the subsection "Organ- or Disease-Oriented Panels."
