CAHPS Survey
Member Experience (CAHPS®) Provider Solution Guide [PDF]
What's the CAHPS® Survey?
The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey asks patients to report on and evaluate their health care experiences. HMSA members are randomly selected to take the survey each year between February and June. Participation is voluntary.
What's the value of the CAHPS Survey?
The survey results give us a deeper understanding of the experiences patients have with the care they receive, which is different from patient satisfaction. It’s also a key part of quality initiatives likes the Medicare Star Ratings quality improvement program and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) accreditation process. We use CAHPS survey results to work with our providers and health care partners to improve patient experience.
Medicare HOS Survey
What's the Medicare Health Outcomes Survey?
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires that Medicare Advantage plans like HMSA conduct the Health Outcomes Survey (HOS). The survey evaluates the care that beneficiaries receive. HMSA members are randomly selected to take the survey between April and July. Participation is voluntary.
What is the value of the HOS survey?
The survey measures the physical and mental well-being of Medicare beneficiaries over time. HOS results are an important part of HMSA’s quality improvement activities to ensure that the care that Medicare pays for meets professionally recognized standards. It’s also a key part of the Medicare Star Ratings quality improvement program. HMSA’s Star Ratings performance directly impacts the services we’re able to provide to our members. We use HOS results to work with our providers and health care partners to improve patient care.
