HMSA employees donate food and thousands of dollars to Hawaii Foodbanks in annual food drive

Hawaii’s families in need will benefit from a big donation to Hawaii’s Foodbanks from employees of the Hawai‘i Medical Service Association (HMSA). Today, employees wrapped up a five-week holiday food drive to help Hawaii’s hungry. They collected more than $40,000 and 1,500 pounds of canned goods and other nonperishables. The contributions were collected at HMSA offices on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii.

“The holidays are an especially difficult time for families in need,” said Gerald Shintaku, president of Hawaii Foodbank, Inc. “Providing healthy meals to struggling families is extremely rewarding. We appreciate the generosity of HMSA’s employees, who donate year after year so that we can feed local families.”

Throughout the drive, HMSA employees challenged each other to collect food items and held food sales to collect monetary donations.

“I’m so proud of the generosity of HMSA employees and how they care about our community,” said HMSA President and Chief Executive Officer Michael A. Gold. “In addition to collecting food, we put a much bigger emphasis on raising monetary donations this year so that our food banks could purchase the items they need most. Our team really enjoys being able to do something to help others, so there were a lot of food and bake sale fundraisers throughout HMSA this year.”
