but with the same freedom to choose your own doctor? HMSA has the answer for you
with CompMED.
Like PPP, CompMED is a free-choice plan that offers you even greater flexibility
in the way you obtain medical services:
Why CompMED?
CompMED gives you the freedom to see any doctor you choose without a referral,
whether you receive care in or out of network. It doesn’t matter if you see a participating
or nonparticipating provider – the benefit percentage is the same. And there is
no need to select a primary care physician (PCP) to manage your care or make referrals.
You can choose any doctor whenever you need care.
Another advantage of CompMED is low, fixed copayments for office visits, so you
always know how much your copayment will be.
With CompMED, you are encouraged to understand your coverage and take more personal
responsibility for your health, wellness and safety. To help you with this emphasis
on prevention, CompMED features no copayments for preventive benefits.
Largest Provider Network
Like PPP, CompMED offers access to the largest network of physicians, hospitals,
and other health care providers in Hawaii. More than 5,000 health care providers
in Hawaii participate in HMSA’s network. That’s more than 95 percent
of the state’s physicians, so there’s a good chance you won’t
have to switch doctors. You are encouraged to choose an HMSA participating provider
to minimize your out-of-pocket costs. They will file your claims for you and accept

Coverage that Travels with You
In addition to having the largest health care provider network in the state, HMSA
provides peace of mind if you need medical attention while traveling outside Hawaii.
HMSA belongs to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield network of health care providers,
so you can rely on the BlueCard® Program for access to the nation’s
largest network.
BlueCard offers you coverage coast to coast with access to over 500,000 providers
nationwide. Outside the United States, you have access to doctors and hospitals
in more than 200 countries and territories around the world through the BlueCard
Worldwide Program.
Health and Wellness Programs
HMSA offers you a variety of health and wellness programs designed to help you develop
and maintain a healthy lifestyle. This includes Well-Being Connection, health education
classes and workshops, preventive health reminders, and more.
